The Original Pancake House - A Vegas Classic

Posted by Picasa
I have long been a huge Original Pancake House fan.  When we first moved to Vegas, we stayed in the apartment of some friends who had leased the apartment but hadn't moved down yet.  One morning, we didn't have any food for breakfast, so we went to the OPH at the Green Valley Ranch Casino.  Liam was crying and a tall German guy went and grabbed him some silver dollar pancakes to help calm him down.  That guy was the owner.
It wasn't, however, service alone that has sold me on OPH.  Their menu used to have a long description of the lengths they go to to make sure their ingredients and dishes are the best they can be.  Something about using only a certain part of the butter, specially made syrup, specially cured and smoked bacon and ham.  They are serious about their food, and I love them for it.

One of my former bosses, who was born and raised in Vegas, had not been to OPH, so I got he and Dave to meet me there.  He was duly impressed.

First, I got my old standby.  They have a lot of great breakfast dishes, but I always come back to the Irish Omelette.  All OPH omelets are four eggs, baked.  The Irish omelette is four eggs, choice of cheese (I always go with gouda), corned beef hash and onions.  AMAZING.  I have never been disappointed.  In fact, I have never been a fan of pancakes.  However, I love the pancakes at OPH.  Light, fluffy, tasty.  I just love it there.

Of course, I have eaten other dishes there, and always love them. (Sorry Martin, I would talk about your delicious spanish omelette, but the pics didn't turn out).  They have crepes, and other european breakfast stuff that is fun to try also.

Dave got a reuben sandwich.  You can just see the great texture in that sandwich.

If you are in Vegas, you are probably not too far from an OPH.  Make sure you visit one.

My eyes turned OPH into IHOP and I was so shocked that you were saying you love their food so much. I was on may way there to see if there was quality I had overlooked several times. Now my eyes are fixed and I see that I must try this someday soon.
